Tiffany Style Beginnings…

Krasun Industries was originally started in 1982 in eastern Connecticut. It was a distributor of reproduction Tiffany style lamps. Michael Krasun had a Tiffany lamp manufacturer as one of his motorcycle racing sponsors for his last year of professional racing in early 1980. When Krasun decided to retire from the racing world in early 1980 he accepted an offer to work for the Tiffany lamp fabricator as a traveling sales rep.

When that company closed in 1982, Krasun found sources that were fabricating the lamps and formed his first company, Krasun Industries as a Tiffany Lamp wholesaler to the retail lighting industry in New England. It was quickly decided that new lamp designs and colors were needed so Krasun studied the home furnishings industry to see what colors were ahead in home design.

He then worked with the largest glass sheet manufactures to develop a line of specialty colors for his lamps. Next was the decision to create his own manufacturing facility in Connecticut to keep costing, quality control, and volume under control.

manufacturing & sale

This factory started in a small 3,000 square foot facility in Preston, CT with 3 employees, including his new wife. Then it was discovered that a very fast growing restaurant chain was using a large amount of stained glass panels and Tiffany lamps in each new store, known as TGI FRIDAYS. They were contacted and after several meetings in Dallas, TX, a multi store contract was awarded worth over $1,000,000.

With that in hand, the manufacturing facility was moved to several old mill building purchased in Norwich CT where the factory was expanded to manage all of the new TGI Fridays work and then a new lighting fixture line was rolled out for dealers nations wide.

The company was eventually expanded to have manufacturing and distribution facilities in Norwich CT, San Diego CA, and a showroom office at the World Trade Center in Dallas TX.

It became the largest manufacturer of architectural glass fixtures in the world when it was sold in 1988 with over 100 employees.
